A LOOK AT EMMA'S LIFE TRAGEDY IN THE MOVIE MADAME BOVARY FROM SCHOPENHAUER'S THEORY
The movie Madame Bovary shows the life tragedy of the heroine Emma.Traditional analysis of the causes of life tragedy mostly focuses on social factors, family factors and characters'own factors. This essay attempts to use Schopenhauer's theory to ex-plore the causes and contents of the vanity tragedy, the desire tragedy and the marriage tragedy in Emma's life tragedy. The vanity tragedy refers to the fact that Emma's vanity is taken advantage of by the perpetrators, such as Chris,Leon and Marquis, which leads to high debts and distorted love. The desire tragedy refers to Emma's long-term pain and depression caused by the accidental event that she once attended a ball and hunting held by a nobility with her husband. The marriage tragedy refers to Emma and Bovary's different personalities and behaviors, resulting in the destruction of the family. Therefore, this essay calls on contemporary people to establish the consumption concept of living within their means, the desire concept of balancing ideal and reality, and the marriage concept of paying equal attention to emotion and responsibility.
