Xiong Shili's Jinxin Kongfu:Centered on Critique of Neo-Confucianism in the Song and Ming Dynasties
On the basis of criticizing the tendency towards restraint of Neo-Confucianism's meditation Kong-fu in the Song and Ming dynasties,Xiong Shili who inherits the lineage of Xinxue began to develop Jinxin Kongfu around Mencius's proposition that showing your mind so that you know your nature and heaven. In terms of the relationship between mind and nature,Xiong Shili inherited the monism of Xinxue and homogenized the catego-ries of mind, nature, and heaven in Neo-Confucianism of the Song and Ming Dynasties. In terms of the relation-ship between mind and object,Xiong Shili held a different view from Wang Yangming's idea that nothing exists beyond the mind.He believed that the dichotomy between mind and object is an important reason for the division of inner and outer KongFu,and proposed that the way to resolve the division of inner and outer KongFu is to have wide learning, that is,to maintain the balance between nature and human affairs.Strictly speaking,Xiong Shili did not build his own rigorous system of Kongfu like Zhu Xi,Wang Yangming, and other Confucian scholars in the Song and Ming Dynasties. However, his reflection and critique of Neo-Confucianism's Kongfu theory in the Song and Ming Dynasties have important enlightening significance for the development of Confucianism's Kongfu theory.
