Progress in the Diagnosisand Prevention of Leprosy
Leprosy, also known as Hansen's disease,is a chronic mycobacteriosis with high infectivity and low pathogenicity.Although the number of cases of leprosy has decreased since the use of combined chemotherapy, accurate early diagnosis remains difficult.Electrophysiological examination is essential for early detection of nerve damage.PGR technique has high sensitivity for DNA detection of Mycobacterium leprae, especially for multi-bacterial leprosy patients.Serological tests can help in early diagnosis of leprosy. The NLR value can distinguish the patients with leprosy type Ⅰ response from those with leprosy type Ⅱ response.MBT kits have great potential in the diagnosis of leprosy.A single dose of rifapentine can effectively protect household contacts from leprosy in areas where the prevalence of the disease is low.
