Investigation and analysis of mental health status and social support of patients with leprosy in Kunming,Yunnan Province
Objective To explore the mental status and social support concerning persons affected by leprosy in Kunming,Yunnan Province.Methods A total of 296 cases of leprosy affected persons were inquired with questionnaires:Self-Rating Depression Scale(SDS),Self-Rating Anxiety Scala(SAS),and Social Support Rating Scale(SSRS).Results The holistic mental health of patients affected by leprosy,The incidence of mental illness was 65.88%,depression was 39.86%,and anxiety was 63.51%.The average scores of depression and anxiety were higher than those of domestic norm(P<0.001).Persons affected by leprosy received less social support than that of the domestic norm(P<0.001).There was a linear negative correlation between social support and depression or anxiety.Conclusion People affected by leprosy in Kunming have poor mental health and low social support rate,so multifaceted interventions should be conducted.
