Evaluation of Water Environment Quality in Dongguan Canal
Since the 1980s,the water system in Dongguan City has suffered from severe pollution, causing significant impacts on the surrounding ecological environment and the lives of the local residents. In order to comprehensively understand the current status of water environmental quality in Dongguan Canal, accurately assess the degree of pollution, and propose remediation strategies, this study conducted field investigations, monitoring, and analysis on the section from Zhangcun to Shigu River. The single-factor evaluation method and comprehensive pollution index method were employed to assess the water quality.Based on the monitoring analysis and evaluation results, the main parameters that exceeded the standards include dissolved oxygen(DO),biochemical oxygen demand(BOD),chemical oxygen demand(COD),and total phosphorus, indicating severe organic and phosphorus pollution in the canal water.
