Folklore and Grand Opera in Taiwan under Japanese Occupational Period
This paper delves into the folk customs and traditional theatrical performances in Taiwan during the Japanese colonial era,conducting an in-depth analysis based on scholarly literature and empirical investigations.Taiwanese folk opera exhibits two prominent characteristics:a symbiotic relationship with folk beliefs and its role in navigating interpersonal dynamics.This paper discusses that early Taiwanese folk operas primarily emanated from mainland regions such as Fujian and Guangdong,categorized into grand operas,small operas,and puppetry.Notable grand operas prevalent in Taiwan during the Japanese occupational period encompassed Nanguan,Beiguan,Siping opera,Gezai opera,and Peking opera.
