Based on the literature and historical context,this study aims to investigate the confusing or easily misunderstood colloquial words"Dangmen","Jiaoguan","Lemie","Pichai",and"Duyong"in the Yamen Archives of Nanbu County,Sichuan in Qing Dynasty,in order to eliminate reading barriers and supplement missing entries or meanings in dictionaries.Research has found that"Dangmen"means"in front of";"Jiaoguan"means"teaching";"Lemie"refers to"the bamboo brake device used in salt well operations";"Pichai"means"playing tricks";"Duyong"refers to"expenses".
