Constructing an Evaluation System for Aggregated English-Chinese Dictionary APPs
Building an evaluation system for electronic dictionaries is of great significance for promoting the development of dictionary criticism theories that are compatible with the digital age and expanding the research field of electronic lexicography.Based on Lew&Szarowska's(2017)framework for evaluating online bilingual dictionaries, this paper constructs a four-level evaluation system for aggregated English-Chinese dictionary APPs,which includes evaluation dimensions, evaluation indicators, evaluation criteria and evaluation approaches. It covers six dimensions, namely database source, lexical coverage, entry treatment, access structure, information presentation, and additional features. Each dimension contains several evaluation indicators, which are further refined into specific evaluation criteria, accompanied by suggested evaluation approaches. This system aims to promote dictionary criticism research adapted to the digital era and serve as a reference for e-dictionary compilation practice and user dictionary selection as well.
