To explore the relationship and underlying mechanisms between self-esteem and sense of meaning in life among college students from economically disadvantaged families,a questionnaire survey was conducted on 1106 students from economically disadvantaged families using the Self Esteem Scale(SES),Sense of Meaning in Life Scale(MLQ),Perceived Social Support Scale(PSSS),and Emotional Intelligence Scale(WLEIS).The results showed that self-esteem,perceived social support,emotional intelligence,and sense of meaning in life were positively correlated;Self esteem positively predicts the sense of meaning in life of students from economically disadvantaged families;Understanding social support and emotional intelligence play a chain mediating role between self-esteem and sense of meaning in life.The results indicate that self-esteem not only directly affects the sense of meaning in life of students from economically disadvantaged families,but also indirectly affects the sense of meaning in life through the chain mediating effect of social support and emotional intelligence.
