Politeness,as a social communication behavior,is a widespread phenomenon in human language and culture.In the practice of discourse communication,polite expression often follows specific strategies,which have been widely discussed by different scholars.Among them,the politeness strategies proposed by Brown&Levinson based on the face theory are representative.Metaphor is a fundamental way for humans to perceive the world and is ubiquitous in language.Based on Brown&Levinson's politeness strategy theory and combined with examples in modern English and Chinese,the application value of metaphor in practices of politeness strategies in discourse is analyzed in depth.
