The Paradigm Shift of Community Economics and Its Contemporary Significance
With the industrial civilization wanes,Western mainstream economic theories that have historical-ly underpinned the capitalist system are encountering unprecedented challenges. The push towards an ecological civilization necessitates a profound shift in economic paradigms. In this context, the collabo-rative effort of Cobb and Daly,"For the Common Good"by Cobb and Daly emerged as seminal work that challenges the tenets of neoclassical environmental economics in the West. This text offers a critique of various facets of mainstream Western economic theories, encompassing their objectives,as-sumptions,methodological approaches, and policy instruments. It delineates the fundamentally anti-e-cological character of capitalism and, grounded in process philosophy, articulates a vision for a new e-conomic paradigm predicated on"community economics".This paper aims to expound and explore the contemporary relevance and significant contributions of the"community economics"paradigm. It suggests that the theoretical framework presented by Cobb and Daly provides valuable insights for real-izing China's vision of ecological civilization.Furthermore, the paper proposes the development of a discourse system for Chinese socialist ecological economics, informed by the dialectical historical per-spective of Marxist materialism. This endeavor seeks to chart a course for the continued advancement of China's ecological civilization, drawing inspiration from the transformative paradigm of"community economics".
