Intellectual-property information contributes significantly to innovation and development and has garnered the attention of information-science scholars.However,intellectual-property information does not form the corresponding dis-cipline cognition.A background investigation of national strategies,intellectual-property development,and social-practice requirements clarified the importance of establishing and developing intellectual-property information systems.The core concepts are defined by reviewing the developmental stages of intellectual-property information research.This paper pres-ents the characteristics of intellectual-property information,the research content,the study subjects,and the framework formed for intellectual-property information.Positioned as a pivotal branch within information science,intellectual-proper-ty information offers robust support for scientific and technological innovation as well as for national development.
