Analysis of Open-Source Intelligence Collection of American Think Tanks on Chinese Defense Community:Take the 2049 Project Institute and the Center for a New American Security as Examples
[Research purpose]This paper sorts out the major ways how American think tanks collect intelligence on Chinese defense community through open sources and summarizes characteristics of these sources,so as to provide a reference for Chinese think tanks to en-hance their ability of open-source intelligence(OSINT)collection and to improve security practices in China.[Research method]This paper sets 2049 Project Research Institute and Center for a New American Security as research objects,takes their typical OSINT products as research samples,and adopts the research method of citation analysis to sort out and analyze the sources of OSINT collection on Chinese defense community.[Research conclusion]The OSINT collection on Chinese defense community by American think tanks such as 2049 Program Research Institute and Center for a New American Security,while ensuring efficiency of collection,focuses on the authority of in-formation,the way of all-round collection through multiple information sources,and wide collection of all kinds of open-source informa-tion through the Internet.
