On South Korea's Perception of Contemporary Intelligence Work Mechanism in North Korea
[Research purpose]The North Korea has established an intelligence work mechanism in line with its own national conditions and formed a distinctive intelligence work tradition in its strategic game with South Korea as its main competitor.The research on North Korea's intelligence work is still a out of favor subject in China.Sorting out and analyzing South Korea's knowledge of North Korea's in-telligence work mechanism are helpful for further enriching and improving the research on the basic theory of intelligence.[Research method]By combing through the relevant literature of South Korea's industry and academia as well as the official literature,we clarify South Korea's general perception of contemporary North Korean intelligence work,and analyze South Korea's perception of North Korea's intelligence work mechanism from the perspective of the politicization of intelligence.[Research conclusion]South Korea believes that North Korea's intelligence work is built around the supreme leader,highly focuses on maintaining the country's internal security and its work with South Korea and continues to promote the reform of the intelligence system.South Korea speculates that North Korea may set up an additional intelligence management department to fully coordinate its intelligence forces,further optimize the strategic layout of its intel-ligence agencies in South Korea and overseas,and actively carry out cyber warfare in order to seek an advantage in asymmetric warfare forces.South Korea's perception of North Korea's intelligence work is also characterized by a certain degree of hostility,non-objectivity and instability due to the politicization of intelligence,such as national security threat perceptions,ideology and policymakers'concepts of intelligence.
