The emergence of nation-states was the result of several centuries of recurring wars.The wars also make it possible and necessary for states to generate national consciousness among their peoples.America,as a nation-state,can not be exceptional.As a relatively young nation,the shaping of America' s national identity has been greatly influenced by several wars in its history.This paper,including the interpretation of national identity and the analysis of America' s several important wars,attempts to explore the role of war in shaping America' s national identity.
