The work, Moment in Peking, is Mr. Lin Yutang's most prestigious masterpiece, the book portrays numerous beautiful andcharming females and unfolds a different kind of life and love before the readers. As the ideal woman for Lin Yutang, Yao Mulan, whose marriage and love arises readers' complex feelings. This thesis is originally started with the writer's question: Mulan's whole life is a tragedy or not? To find the answer, the thesis analyzes Yao Mulan's tragedy and happiness in her life, finding that Yao Mulan uses her compliance, optimism, wisdom and magnanimity to overcome these tragedies, including the tragedy of love, the tragedy of kinship and the tragedy of marriage, and get a sense of happiness. The thesis thinks that Yao Mulan' life looks like a tragic one, but in fact it is no lack of happiness. Yao Mulan's life is a happy tragedy.
