Road safety hazards constitute a significant threat during the urbanization process.This article meticulously examines New York's relevant theories and practices in urban road safety management,summarizing experiences that Chinese cities can draw upon.New York has formulated strategies like"Sustainable Streets"and"Vision Zero,"shaping a traffic safety philosophy of human-oriented and prioritizing slow traffic.A multi-departmental cooperation mechanism has established to support the implementation of these strategies and principles.Leveraging comprehensive crash data and risk analysis,New York has developed a holistic safety enhancement action plan and targeted street design guidelines,implementing measures ranging from engineering improvements and rigorous law enforcement to comprehensive safety education coverage.Regular progress tracking,detailed reporting,and evaluations of completed projects contribute to dynamic adjustments in action plans.New York's experiences offer profound insights for China in terms of strategic formulation and implementation,system and mechanism,infrastructure improvements,and public awareness and education,addressing similar challenges in traffic safety during rapid urban development.
