Income-generating Effect of Higher Education Expansion on the Population:An Empirical Analysis Based on CGSS Data
Common prosperity is an important theoretical proposition under the perspective of Chinese modernization, and the development of higher education has an important impact on the realization of common prosperity.By exploring the impact of higher education expansion on the average income level of residents,it is found that the average income of residents after the expansion of higher education significantly increased by 50%-80%,realizing the income-generating effect. However, the income-generating effect has different income-generating intensities for different income groups, and there is an obvious gap between the income-generating intensity of low-income groups and that of middle-and high-income groups, and the"Matthew effect"in the distribution of income still persists.Although the difference between the income intensity of middle-class income groups and high-class income groups is not big, there is no trend of narrowing the income gap,and the income-generating effect brought by the expansion of higher education has to a certain extent widened the income gap of various economic classes. With high-quality higher education to build up and empower the common prosperity, coordinating and improving policies, strengthening the professional skills training of students, and cutting off the irrational channels of intergenerational transmission of wealth and poverty need to be put on the agenda.
