Cross-border E-commerce and Yangtze River Delta Region's Urban Innovation——Quasi-natural Experiment Based on the Establishment of a Comprehensive Pilot Zone for Cross-border E-commerce
Based on the panel data of prefecture-level cities in the Yangtze River Delta,the impact of the es-tablishment of cross-border e-commerce comprehensive pilot zones on urban innovation was estimated by using a multi-period difference-in-difference model.The results show that the establishment of comprehen-sive pilot zones for cross-border e-commerce has significantly promoted urban innovation,and this conclu-sion remains valid after passing multiple robustness tests.The mechanism test shows that the improve-ment of cross-border e-commerce on urban innovation ability is mainly achieved by promoting the integra-tion of manufacturing and service industries,driving the development of regional digital economy,and im-proving the entrepreneurial vitality of cities.Heterogeneity analysis shows that,compared with big cities,coastal cities and economically developed cities,the promotion effect of cross-border e-commerce on urban innovation is more obvious in ordinary cities,non-coastal cities and economically underdeveloped cities.
