The cell toxicity of 6-O-CM-Chitosan is studied by hemo lysis and cell toxicity experiments in this paper. The results show that the hem olysis of 6-O-CM-chitosan at the concentration of 1.0% is less than 5%, which means that 6-O-CM-chitosan has no hemolysis at this condition. The cell toxi city is studied by culturing mouse skin fibroblast in media containing 1000μg/m l and 2000μg/ml 6-O-CM-chitosan and contrasted with suture and 500μg/ml phe nol. The results demonstrate that the cell multiplication coefficient is more th an 100% after being cultured with 6-O-chitosan for 2d, 4d and 7d, which expres ses that 6-O-chitosan has no cell toxicity and can stimulate the proliferation of fibroblast obtained from the skin of mouse. The lower the molecule weight of 6-0-CM-chitosan is, and the longer the time the cells are exposed to 6-O-C M-chitosan, the greater the cell stimulation is.
