Reviews on Ecological Stoichiometry in Aquatic Ecosystem
Ecological stoichiometry integrates the fundamental principle of biology, chemistry and physics, and is the discipline to study the balance of multiple chemical elements(mainly C、N、P) and energy in ecological processes.Ecological stoichiometry combines all aspects of ecology (molecular, individual, population, ecosystem and global scale) through elements ratio. At present,C ∶ N ∶ P stoichiometry has been incorporated successfully into many levels of biology from molecule, cell, population and community to ecosystem and globle. This article reviews the application of C ∶ N ∶ P stoichiometry to the studies of ecological problems in aquatic ecosystem, including growth rate hypothesis, homeostasis mechanism, food web, nutrient cycling and biogeochemistry.Meanwhile,we also put forward some perspectives for future research to be conducted with an aim to promote this discipline of research in this world.
