Progress in the Research of Marine Natural Products in the Prevention and Treatment of Ocular Diseases
Because of their unique habitat and metabolic pathways,marine organisms can produce a large number of marine natural products(MNPs)with high structural and functional diversity,which play key roles in the prevention and treatment of ocular diseases.In this review,the categories and sources of MNPs were systematically introduced,the biological activities of MNPs in anti-oxidantion,anti-inflammation,anti-angiogenesis and cytoprotection were analyzed,and the specific applications of MNPs in the precaution and treatment of ocular diseases such as age-related macular degeneration,dia-betic retinopathy,glaucoma,dry eye disease,uveitis and cataract is reviewed.It is pointed out that de-veloping MNPs is likely to be the future development direction of novel therapeutic agents for ocular dis-eases.
