Research on multi-pulse behaviors of rectangular noise-like pulse in fiber laser
This paper reports various multi-pulse behaviors of rectangular noise-like pulses(NLPs)generated in a passively mode-locked Erbium-doped fiber laser based on a nonlinear optical loop mirror(NOLM).Under the fundamental frequency of 2.19 MHz,the stable NLP is obtained. The pulse duration broadens from 1.25 ns to 4.35 ns,and the energy of a single pulse reaches 7.72 nJ.By changing the pump power and the polarization state, the rectangular NLP can split multiple pulses and exhibit various behav-iors under different cavity parameters, such as rectangular NLP clusters with irregular or regular pulse spacing, and different order harmonically mode-locked NLPs.The experimental results indicate that the NLP possesses a splitting characteristic similar to conventional soliton. The single pulse duration is gradu-ally decreased with the increase of pulse number within pulse clusters. The finding facilitates a better un-derstanding of the generation mechanisms of the rectangular NLP and the dynamic characteristics of multi-ple pulses.
