Cladding waveguide lasers in femtosecond laser written Nd∶YVO4 crystals waveguides
We have reported the formation of buried cladding waveguides in Nd∶YVO4 crystals by fem-tosecond laser writing at a repetition rate of 500 kHz.The effects of the writing conditions such as pulse energy, depth, scanning speed and femtosecond laser polarization on the optical waveguide performance were specifically studied. The insertion loss of the waveguide at 1.06 μm was as low as 2.4 dB.A continu-ous waveguide laser emitted at 1 064 nm was achieved at room temperature by using a laser pump at 808 nm.Multimode guiding and lasing were realized in the waveguides with different diameters. The waveguide with a diameter of 60 μm generates a maximum output power of 143 mW and a slope efficiency of 21.3%.The optical waveguide is also characterized by using micro Raman spectroscopy, showing that the lattice structure of the laser-induced region is destroyed resulting in refractive index decreases.
