Encouraged by the policy of"replacing small ones with large ones",old wind turbines are gradually ushering in their retirement peak.Using old wind turbines to rebuild gravity energy storage systems can simultaneously solve the problem of decommissioning old wind turbines and the gap in wind power energy storage demand, and has good economic, social and ecological benefits.Taking an old 1.5 MW wind turbine as an example, the capacity potential of the wind turbine tower to be rebuilt into a gravity energy storage system is analyzed, and the power and operating time selection of the energy storage system are discussed. The capacity of the renovated energy storage system can reach 6.67 kWh,and the system power can be selectable. The range is 20 kW to 2 MW,and the corresponding energy storage time is 20 minutes to 10 seconds. The construction cost advantages of retrofitting gravity energy storage with old wind turbines compared with other short-term energy storage forms are clarified, and the operating costs and benefits are discussed, providing new ideas and models for the development of new energy and energy storage technologies.
