Qinghai Province belongs to the plateau continental climate and the ecological environment is sensi-tive and fragile.In the process of highway construction,a large amount of excavation and backfill are required to form a high fill subgrade or deep excavation of trenches,which has an irreversible impact on the natural ecological environment along the line.It is mainly manifested in serious soil erosion,destruction of vegetation,and even land-slides and debris flows under the continuous erosion of rainfall and glacial meltwater.In recent years,China has successively carried out the pilot and exploration of ecological projects related to highways and waterways,especial-ly in the Qinghai Plateau,and has achieved remarkable results.Based on the highway project under construction in Qinghai Province,this paper analyzes the necessity of plant slope protection,the common highway subgrade slope diseases,as well as the types of slope broken surface protection and the engineering example application of plant slope protection,and summarizes the key points of the implementation of plant ecological protection technology for highway slope in alpine and high-altitude areas,so as to provide technical support and reference for similar pro-jects in the future.
