Ethnic Communication,Exchanges and Integration in the Practice of Festival Culture:Taking the Jiu Huang Hui of the Lahu Ethnic Group in Lancang,Yunnan as an Example
Ethnic festival celebrations and ritual performances are not only windows for showcasing ethnic culture,but also a process of continu-ous integration,innovation,and reproduction of ethnic culture.The Jiu Huang Hui was initially related to Taoism and Buddhist culture.After being introduced to the Saihan Lahu ethnic area of Lancang,Yunnan in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties,it gradually merged with the culture of the Lahu ethnic group,forming local characteristics of prayer and worship activities and customs.With the changing times,the Jiu Huang Hui has evolved from a simple folk prayer and worship activity to a popular folk festival celebration,realizing the sharing and cultural continuity of ethnic festival cus-toms,becoming a platform for communication and interaction among ethnic groups such as the Lahu,Han,Hani,and Wa.As a traditional festival that transcends ethnic boundaries and is shared by multiple ethnic groups,the Jiu Huang Hui and its cultural practices provide a vivid case for ethnic communication,exchanges and integration.
