Relationship between the abstract length and citation frequency in scientific papers
Abstract is an important component of scientific papers. As one of the publicly available information in a paper, readers judge whether the paper is worth reading and downloading through the abstract. The length of the abstract and the frequency of citations are the source indicators for determining the aca-demic value of scientific papers. Therefore, this study aims to explore the relationship between the abstract length and the frequency of citations in scientific papers. The study focuses on 436 academic papers pub-lished in the first half of 2018 in Journal of Ecology, using mean research Mann Whitney U test,correla-tion analysis and other methods were used for research, and the results showed that the word count and citation frequency of scientific paper abstracts did not follow a normal distribution, and there was no linear relationship;the average citation frequency of scientific papers with shorter abstract length is higher than that of papers with moderate and longer length;there is no correlation between the two.
