In order to accurately select and breed excellent male sheep for breeding and improve the success rate of artificial insemination and conception rate of Qinghai fine wool sheep,it is particularly important to detect and analyze the quality of semen. The quality of semen can determine the superiority or inferior of mating ability,as well as reflect the level of breeding and the functional status of reproductive organs in male animals. This experiment divided 70 Qinghai fine wool sheep breeds into three groups based on age, namely, male sheep group with aged l year, adult male sheep group with aged 2~4 year, and male sheep group with aged 5~7 year, and conduc-ted routine evaluation and analysis of their semen quality. The results showed that there was no significant correla-tion between semen volume and semen density, sperm motility in each group, while there was a positive correlation between semen density and sperm motility. There is no significant difference between semen volume and semen den-sity among different age groups.Within the age range of 1~7 years old,the vitality of sperm gradually increases with age.The analysis of semen quality is of great significance for selecting excellent breeding rams, improving the quality of production herds, and increasing the success rate and conception rate of artificial insemination.
