Effects of Marigold Extract on Meat Quality and Antioxidant Function of Broilers
The purpose of this experiment was to study the effects of different levels of Tagetes erecta extract on meat quality and antioxidant indexes of broilers, and to determine the optimum addition level of Tagetes erecta ex-tract in broiler breeding production.320 broilers with similar weight,no epidemic disease and 21 days old were randomly divided into 4 groups according to the principle of equal weight, age and health, with 4 replicates in each group and 20 broilers in each replicate. The broilers in the control group were fed a basal diet without marigold, and the other three groups were fed a basal diet containing 0.25%(low dose group),0.5%(middle dose group)and 1%(high dose group)of marigold extract respectively. The pre-feeding period was 7 days, and the formal test period was 21 days. The results showed that,Compared with the control group, adding 0.5%and 1.0%Tagetes erecta extract in the diet can significantly increase the pH of broilers for 24 h(P<0.05),significantly in-crease the a*value(P<0.05),and significantly reduce the dripping loss(P<0.05),respectively,by 17.23%and 19.33%;Compared with the control group, adding 0.5%and 1%Tagetes erecta extract in broiler diet can significantly improve the serum total antioxidant capacity(P<0.05),glutathione peroxidase activity(P<0.05)and significantly reduce the malondialdehyde level(P<0.05);Adding 0.5%Tagetes erecta extract to the diet can significantly improve the activity of superoxide dismutase in broiler serum(P<0.05).To sum up,adding a proper amount of Tagetes erecta extract to broiler diet can enhance its serum antioxidant function, and the optimal addition level of Tagetes erecta extract is 0.5%.
