Surveillance and Analysis of Sheep Brucellosis in Bijiang District During 2021-2023
This study aimed to preliminarily investigate the prevalence of brucellosis of sheep in Bijiang District and assess the potential risks affecting its prevalence, providing a basis for the effective formulation and implemen-tation of control measures. The blood serum samples were collected from 7 239 sheep from 82 farms across the dis-trict from 2021 to 2023,and the prevalence of brucellosis was detected using the tube agglutination test and ELISA methods. The impacts of sheep breeds, genders, and ages on the prevalence of brucellosis in sheep were analyzed. The results showed that 308 out of the 7 239 serum samples tested positive, resulting in a farm positivity rate and sample positivity rate of 3.66%and 4.25%,respectively,both of which showed a decreasing trend over the years. There was no significant difference in infection rates among the breeds and genders(P>0.05),where as the infection rates varied significantly among different age groups(P<0.05).The highest positivity rate was observed in adult sheep, while the lowest infection rate was found in young sheep. This study has investigated the prevalence of brucellosis in sheep in Bijiang District, highlighting the potential public health risks in certain farms. The results of this investigation provide a scientific basis for the further development and implementation of appropriate control measures.
