Analysis of the Current Status and Influencing Factors of Cognition and Expectations of Nursing Master's Students towards Advanced Practice Nurses
Objective:To understand the expectations and cognitive status of nursing master's students towards advanced practice nurses(APN),and analyze their influencing factors.Method:From October to November 2023,convenience sampling was used to investigate the expectations and cognition of nursing master's students towards the role of APN among full-time nursing master's students from six higher education institutions with nursing master's degree programs.A self-designed questionnaire was used to analyze the influencing factors.Re-sults:A total of 294 full-time nursing master's students participated in this study,of which 47.99%were expected to work as APN respon-sible for overall management and not specifically managing beds,55.78%were expected to have the same level of authority in the depart-ment as the head nurse,and 56.12%were expected to complete certification assessments through APN based off duty training.In terms of cognition,the total score of nursing master's students towards APN is 44.06±8.67,with the lowest score in the role positioning dimen-sion.Multiple linear regression analysis shows that the influencing factors of cognitive level include family support for future clinical nurs-ing,the availability of advanced nursing practice related courses in the university,the type of graduate supervisor,and the type of master's degree,which can explain 32.4%of the variation in the regression equation.Conclusion:Nursing master's students exhibit a willingness to avoid clinical practice and tend to engage in management work when it comes to the role expectations of APN.The understanding of APN is at a moderate level,and attention should be paid to improving the family support for nursing master's students to engage in clinical nurs-ing,improving the situation of offering advanced nursing practice related courses in universities,paying attention to the differences in the training of nursing master's students with different mentor types and degree types,and establishing positive clinical practice values to pro-mote the development of APN in China.
