In response to the hidden danger of scaled and blocked pipelines in the high hardness wastewater generated by the coal gasification unit of a certain company, addition of commercially available sodium carbonate or use of a company's by-products CO2 and caustic soda for the total hard removal was studied. The results showed that total hard removal rate of the precipitation treatment process with addition of sodium carbonate was 99.5%,that of the other treatment process by using by-product CO2 and caustic soda was 99.0%~99.8%,which not only effectively reduced the existing risks but also had good economic efficiency.
