Reinforcement Effect of the Concentration of Polyethylene Glycol on the Physical Properties of Water Wood From Nanao No.1
In this paper, polyethylene glycol(PEG)was used to reinforce the rotten archaeological wood from Nanao No.1 shipwreck, and the reinforcement effect was evaluated by the changes of physical properties of the wood after reinforcement by different concentrations of polyethylene glycol. It was found that PEG would adhere to the wooden pores after soaked in the wood, which played a good supporting role in the timber structure. The concentration of PEG should be selected according to the preservation state of the wood. After soaking and drying with high-concentration PEG,the size of the wood blocks from Nanao No.1 shipwreck was reduced and the color difference was larger.
