This essay utilizes recently published documents from The Selected Archives of Xinjiang in the Qing Dynasty and related historical materials to isolate the factors determining the wage level in Turpan.By examining lawsuits and data from the sources,it finds that the wage level of the Turpan market is determined by various factors including labor value,market supply and demand,as well as transaction costs and risks.That wage laborers were also found to be active in the market as debtors,equity holders,investors and in other ways reflects the penetration of financial markets into the labor market.The local government's regulation and supervision of the market order ensured the orderly development of market competition.At the same time,immigrants from China proper played an active role in determining market demand and effecting technology transfers.All these developments reflect the evolution of the Turpan labor market economy.
