The Selection of Scholars on Kangxi's Southern Tour and the Editing and Influence of Official Books
Kangxi had three exams to recruit Jiangnan scholars during his southern inspection.Among the 73 candidates listed in Collected Statutes, illustrations and Precedents of Qing Dynasty,68 people participated in the compilation of books planned by Kangxi, which effectively solved the problem of insufficient editors. After Jiangnan scholars participated in editing activities,a process-oriented compilation system was formed,so that Hanlin could be separated from the trivial matters of book compilation, and Jiangnan scholars undertook specific editing work, which improved editing efficiency.Jiangnan scholars who participated in the editing work injected Jiangnan's academic achievements and ideas into official books, making it a part of Kangxi's cultural governance achievements, and improving the academic level of books planned by Kangxi. These Jiangnan scholars were also subtly influenced by Kangxi's literary concepts in their compilation activities. When they became examiners or local administrators in the future, they were able to consciously advocate and practice Kangxi's poetic teachings.
