New Cultural Life from the Perspective of the Dispute between Chinese and Western Cultures
General Secretary Xi Jinping put forward the important concept of"new cultural life"at the Symposium on Cultural Inheritance and Development,which is of great significance in solving the dispute between Chinese and Western cultures in the new era.At present,the capitalist culture life faces multiple crises:capitalism's questioning and critique of the homogeneity of reason has given rise to nihilism,resulting in a crisis of subjectivity;the process of the world's demystification has brought people out of the bondage of the Protestant ethic and into the"bazaar of life",resulting in a crisis of transcendence;the domination of the cultural industry has put the principle of commodity above the principle of art,resulting in a crisis of aesthetics;and the political and economic erosion has led to the decline of culture and its disintegration into fragmented areas,resulting in a crisis of totality.Compared with the capitalist cultural life,the new cultural life pursues the unity of transcendence and reality,curbing the proliferation of nihilism and the crisis of value and significance;it pursues the unity of nationalization and cosmopolitanization,breaking down the theory of cultural centrism and the theory of civilizational superiority;and it adheres to the unity of the cultural viewpoint and the people's viewpoint,transcending the logic of cultural capital and the principle of cultural commerce.The new cultural life provides a new Chinese narrative for reshaping the world's cultural pattern and becomes a new cultural dawn leading to the development of a new form of human civilization.
