A New Proof of Historical Materialism in Marx's Abstract of Ancient Society
In his later years,Marx turned to studying Eastern society,extensively reviewing anthropological materials,especially Morgan's book Ancient Society,and paying attention to the important role of traditional society,especially Eastern social history and culture.Marx affirmed Morgan's emphasis on the social driving role of technology and production,but also pointed out that Morgan's understanding of the status and role of economic foundation is still insufficient,and criticized his idealistic tendency.Based on the research theme and field materials of Morgan's Ancient Society,Marx criticized the incompleteness of Morgan's materialist view of history in terms of content,methodology,and epistemology,promoting the progress of materialist view of history with the times and elevating Marxist theory to new heights.
