A Study of the Metaphor and Metaphorical Translation of English Economic News Headlines
The economic news coverage is one of the most important ways to keep track of the economic dynamics at home and abroad.As the eyes of news,the news headlines concisely and comprehensively give a highly condensed summary of the news,involving the news body and facts,etc.Abundant meta-phorical phenomena can be found in English news headlines.However,few scholars ever tried to conduct researches on the metaphor and metaphorical translation of English economic news headlines from the cognitive perspective.By collecting 295 economic news headlines from the Business Focus of the website China daily,the metaphorical phenomena are studied based on Conceptual Metaphor Theory(CMT).The metaphorical keywords,expression and occurrence are calculated and generalized.Moreover,three transla-tion strategies are put forward,including literal translation and retaining the target domain,changing the target domain,and the omission of the metaphor,or in other words,expressing the implied meaning di-rectly without retaining the target domain.
