Tree Composition and Canopy Structure Characteristics of Green Spaces in Urban Parks in Dongguan City
Urban green spaces, especially the park habitat ecological forest, play a key role in regulating tem-perature and optimizing the living environment of residents. To understand the relationship between the canopy structure, the main forest types and dominant tree species, and understory light in communities in urban parks,32 landscape units of typical woody plants in seven urban parks in Dongguan were quantitatively studied through classical community investigation and hemispherical imaging technology. The results showed that:1)At present, the tree species composition of green spaces in Dongguan urban parks can be divided into three types, including artificial inefficient forests dominated by Acacia mangium,Acacia conf us a,Eucalyptus urophylla,Litchi chinensis,Dimocarpus longan, and Clausena lansium, protecting natural forests dominated by Cinnamo-mum burmanni,Aquilaria sinensis,Syzygium nervosum,Schima superb and Camphora officinarum, and orna-mental-recreational forests dominated by precious ornamental tree species such as Handroanthus chrysanthus,Falcataria falcata,Bauhinia purpurea, and Michelia X alba.2)In this study, the canopy coverage and leaf area index of natural forests were the highest, followed by inefficient forests, with the ornamental forests being the smallest but having the largest coefficient of variation.3)In Dongguan City Parks, the effects of different trees on canopy structure and understory light were different. The results of this study reveal the structural patterns of the canopy of urban park green spaces in Dongguan and its relationship and dynamic changes with understory light and also provide a scientific basis for the selection of tree species and the construction of recreational envi-ronment in urban park green spaces in this region.
