An Infrared Camera Technology-based Investigation of the Daily Activity Rhythm of Muntiacus nigripes
By deploying 50 infrared cameras, the Muntiacus nigripes in the Wuzhishan Area of the Hainan Tropical Rainforest National Park were monitored for five years from March 2015 to February 2020,and a com-prehensive analysis was conducted based on the collected photos. The activity rhythm of M.nigripes was ana-lyzed by using three different factors:daily-discrepancy index(DDI),diurnal-nocturnal index(DNI),and sea-sonal-activity index(SAI).Meanwhile, the overlap of activity rhythms between M.nigripes and Sus scrofa in the same area was determined through kernel density estimation. The results are as follows:(1)There was no significant difference in the DDIs between each month(t=0.001,df=11,P>0.05).During the day,the most active periods of M.nigripes concentrated 6:00~10:00 and 16:00~18:00,in which the peak appeared at 7:00 and 17:00,showing a typical bimodal pattern.(2)There was no significant difference in the DNIs between each month(t=0.610,df=11,P>0.05).The average DNI was 0.68,bigger than 0.54(13/24),which showed that the M.nigripes in the Wuzhishan Area were diurnal.(3)There were significant differences in SAIs between dif-ferent season categories(χ2=12.028,df=3,P=0.007,P<0.05).(4)The overlap coefficient of activity rhythm between M.nigripes and S.scrofa was 0.82,and the difference between their daily activity rhythm curves was significant(△4=0.82,P=0.002,P<0.01),indicating that the activity times of the two species were signifi-cantly differentiated.
