Activity Patterns of Arborophila ardens in the Jianfengling Forest Area of Hainan Tropical Rainforest National Park
Hainan partridge(Arborophila ardens)is a unique species on Hainan Island. In this study,160 in-frared cameras were deployed in the Jianfengling forest area of Hainan Tropical Rainforest National Park to continuously monitor the A.ardens from October 2020 to October 2023 and analyze its activity patterns based on infrared camera data.76 independent and effective photos of A.ardens were obtained from 32 infrared cam-eras,including 39 photos from the rainy season and 37 photos from the dry season. The results showed that the daily activity rhythm of A.ardens showed an obvious diurnal pattern, with two activity peaks in the morning and evening during the dry season, and three activity peaks during the rainy season. The chi-square test showed no significant difference in activity intensity among months. The proportion of individual, paired, and group activi-ties of A.ardens accounted for 50.0%,30.3%,and 19.7%,respectively.The activity pattern of A.ardens in the Jianfengling forest area might be affected by interspecific competition, climate, human disturbance, and other factors. This study provided data support for the protection and management of A.ardens in Hainan Tropical Rainforest National Park.
