Community Succession of Natural Restoration of Mangrove Forests in Xinying,Hainan
To explore the community succession mechanism of mangroves in natural restoration,we studied the plant communities during the progress of pond reclamation,a disturbed habitat by human activities,in Hainan Xinying Mangrove National Wetland Park. The results showed that in the natural restoration succession series after pond retirement, mangrove plants grew rapidly in the early stage and then grew slowly in the later stage,in which the community structure was relatively stable. The number of species in the series was gradually increas-ing,i.e.Avicennia marina+Aegiceras corniculatum → Avicennia marina+Rhizophora stylosa+Aegiceras corniculatum → coexistence of multiple mangrove species. The restoration of mangrove forests in the retreating ponds was impacted by the natural mangrove plant community nearby, and the effects varied at different suc-cession stages. After 10-12 years of natural restoration, the mangrove plant community approached the later stage of succession. This study provides a basis and reference for the rational utilization of natural restoration of mangrove forests, promotion of the ecological restoration of mangrove wetlands, and improvement of the ecologi-cal benefits of mangrove wetlands.
