Effects of Different pH on Carbon Conversion Characteristics and Maturity during Aerobic Composting of Cattle Manure-Wheat Straw
In order to explore the effect of different pH on the carbon conversion and composting maturity during the aerobic composting of cattle manure and wheat, which was also the main raw material. The aerobic composting experiment was carried out with closed forced ventilation system, four different pH treatments were set,T1:CK(conventional composting),pH=8.74;T2:pH=8.5;T3:pH=7.5;T4:pH=6.5.The effects of different pH on the contents of total organic carbon, soluble organic carbon, humic acid and its components, and the humification parameters of cattle manure-wheat straw aerobic composting were studied. The results showed that the different led to the different temperature of the compost heap, and the initial pH of the compost heap was 6.61,which would delay the compost heap entering the high temperature period, and then affect the composting process.During the whole process, the TOC content of T1~T4 treatments was reduced respectively by 29.36%,28.58%,27.36%and 28.64%.The higher initial pH of the compost heap was easy to cause the loss of carbon in aerobic composting.Whether reducing the pH of the it was conducive to the decomposition of cellulose, hemicellulose, lignin and other substances by microorganisms in the pile during the composting maturity period, and promoted the forma, olymerization degree and humification coefficient of compost products. When the initial pH of the pile was 7.73,it rather more beneficial to the formation and accumulation of soluble carbon and humic acid substances and the conversion between humic acid and fulvic acid during the composting process, the compost product had the highest maturity and the best compost quality. It's suggested that acid or alkaline additives should be added to adjust the pH of the compost when making compost ingredients with livestock and poultry manure as raw materials, and the pH of the compost should be adjusted to about 7.73.The research results can provide reference for better studying of carbon conversion, efficient utilization in aerobic composting process and technical improvement of composting process parameters.
