Grafting Experiments based on H2 Variety Macadamia Nuts-A Case Study of Wangya Village's Macadamia Nut Planting
Using six-years-old H2 variety as the rootstock, the A16,A4 and OC varieties with stable genetic properties, robust growth, obvious axillary buds,no pests and diseases were selected as scions.Grafted in mid to late February to study the effects of different varieties and rootstock thickness on the graft survival rate. The growth of surviving branches was monitored for one year to compare the differences among varieties. The results showed that there were significant differences in survival rates among different varieties, with an average survival rate ranging from 83.7%to 97.7%.The OC variety had the highest survival rate at 97.7%,and that of A4 variety had the lowest at 83.7%.The grafting survival rate of rootstocks with a diameter of 2.0~2.9 cm was the highest, with an average survival rate of 93.2%.There were also significant differences in the growth of surviving branches among the varieties, with the average growth length of branches from the three varieties ranging from 111.1 to 137.2cm.The OC variety had the highest growth length at 137.2 cm,while the A16 had the lowest growth length at 111.1 cm.There was no obvious difference in the number of whorls among different varieties, with an average of 7-10 whorled branches, and the highest one was OC variety as scion of being 10 whorls.
