Fruit Characteristics of Macadamia Genetic Resources
The fruit characteristics of 28 accessions of macadamia germplasm resources were investigated at the Macadamia Genetic Collection Pool of the South Subtropical Crops Research Institute, Zhanjiang,Guangdong Province for the first time.The results showed that (1) the fruit shape of most of the 28 accessions of macadamia germplasm resources was ovoid, fruit weights were from 15.0 to 20.0 g, pericarp colour was light green, ventral suture was not obvious, fruit apical point was obvious.(2) Shell fruit shape was oblate, ventral suture was obvious, markings on the surface of shell fruit was scattered and micropyle was closed.(3) Colour of most the kernel was cream yellow or white, kernel weights were from 2.0 to 3.0 g, kernel rates of most germplasm resources were from 31.0% to 37.0% and the first class nut rates were from 88.0% to 98.0%.(4) From fruit to kernel, the shapes were ovoid to oblate and the ventral suture was obvious increasingly.
