The resources of wild aromatic plant in Guangdong Mountains were very rich. Our study showed that there were 763 species of wild aromatic plants from 111 families and 310 genera, including trees, shrubs, herbaceous and lianas. The distribution area types of this aromatic plant flora were abundant. At the family level, the most abundant types of climatic zone were the "tropical to subtropical elements" (29 families) and the "tropical to temperate elements" (38 families), which made up 26.1% and 34.2% of the total numbers of families respectively. There were 10 families with the most abundant species of aromatic plants, i.e. Magnoliaceae, Lauraceae and Rutaceae, etc. At genus level, all the 310 genera of aromatic plants can be classified to 13 geographical distribution types; and the genera of tropical areal-types (187 genera) make up 60.1%, taking a predominated position, while those of temperate ones (98 genera) account for 31.8%. Finally, the status and utilization as well as application prospects of the landscaping fragrant plants in Guangdong Mountains were discussed in this paper. We found that there were about 372 species of aromatic plants with high ornamental and landscaping value in this flora. Some suggestions on the utilization and application of the wild aromatic plant resources were given.
