Effects of Magnesium on Leaf Photosynthesis Pigments, Soluble Protein Content and Reducing Nitric Acid Activity of ‘Xintianling’ Watermelon
In this paper, the watermelon ‘Xintianling’ grown in pots containing sand were used to study the effects of magnesium concentration of 0(CK),24,48,96,192 mg/L on leaf photosynthesis pigments, soluble protein content and reducing nitric acid activity of ‘Xintianling’ watermelon. The results showed that magnesium concentration affected the entire growth process of watermelon. In each period, the effect of magnesium on contents of photosynthetic pigments, carotenoids, soluble sugar, soluble protein and NR activity of ‘Xintianling’ watermelon presented to rise to a maximum and then reduced. The content of each substance and NR activity reached to a maximum for the same period when magnesium concentration was 48 mg/L,48 mg/L was the optimum concentration of magnesium, magnesium deficiency, low magnesium, magnesium excess would be adversely affected. The expanding time of ‘Xintianling’ was affected seriously by magnesium levels. This period should pay particular attention to the amount of magnesium fertilizer to reduce the impact of magnesium on carbon and nitrogen metabolism in leaves of watermelon,in order to promote high-quality and high-yielding of watermelon.
