Study on the Germination Characteristics of Seeds of Blumea balsamifera
The effects of potassium nitrate, calcium chloride,IAA,temperature, and storage time on seed germination were studied to understand the biological characteristics of Blumea balsamifera seeds. The germination potential, germination rate, and root length of the B.balsamifera seeds were compared under potassium nitrate, calcium chloride,IAA,temperature, and storage time treatments. The results showed that B.balsamifera seeds were petite and had no dormancy. The germination rate of seeds stored for more than 70 d at 25℃decreased rapidly, and the germination rate of seeds stored for 340 d at 4℃did not decrease. The seeds soaking in 500,1 000 mg.L‒1 potassium nitrate solution and 200 mg.L‒1 calcium chloride solution sig-nificantly improved the seed germination potential, germination rate, and root length. The soaking of seeds at 40℃signifi-cantly increased the germination rate of the seeds, and at temperatures greater than 60℃,the seeds lost their germination abil-ity.Therefore,the optimum storage temperature for B.balsamifera seeds is 4℃,and the germination rate can be effectively improved by soaking the seeds in 500 mg.L‒1 potassium nitrate for 12 h under these conditions.
