Characteristics of Cadmium Uptake and Transport in Different Rice Varieties Under Field Conditions
Heavy metal pollution in farmland in southern China is dominated by cadmium, and the absorption characteristics of cadmium in rice may lead to a greater risk of cadmium contamination in rice in southern rice-growing areas and the selec-tion of suitable rice varieties for planting to reduce the cadmium content of rice and reduce the intake of cadmium by human beings as an effective method while realizing the most economical and effective method of remediation of contaminated farmland during production. At present, research on cadmium uptake and accumulation in rice has focused mainly on the in-door mechanism, and the results are not very informative in production practice.Eighteen rice varieties suitable for local cul-tivation were selected as test objects to carry out field tests to clarify the cadmium uptake and accumulation characteristics of local rice varieties under field conditions.By comparing the cadmium absorption, transportation, and accumulation character-istics of different rice varieties,we screened low cadmium accumulation rice varieties suitable for local cultivation. The results revealed significant differences in the cadmium absorption and transfer capacity of the 18 rice varieties and the cadmium con-tent of different rice varieties in each organ in the following order:root>stem>leaf and rice.As a whole, the cadmium content of hybrid rice was greater than that of conventional rice..Through the analysis of rice's ability to absorb and accumulate cad-mium,9 low cadmium accumulation type varieties were identified, including Yuehesimiao,Yuefengxinzhan,Fengyou428,Yuxiangyouzhan,Yueyousimiao,Wuyou 613,Hemeizhan,Taifengyou208 and Wuyou308.Comprehensive factor analysis shows that 8 varieties, included Wufengyou615,Fengyou428,Junongzhan,Yuxiangyouzhan,Fengyousimiao,Taifengyou208,Yuejingyouzhan and Wuyou 376.perform well and can be used as suitable rice varieties for planting in the region.
